My classroom, as a resource special education teacher, doesn't provide much more room than a storage closet, making effective independent and socially distant learning, a huge challenge. Therefore, I am hoping to get four floor-based work stations to provide access for my students to engage in independent and socially-distanced learning, that promotes both their safety and their self-esteem. In the time of COVID-19, this is particularly important, because without social distancing measures, our school is likely to get shut down, which would be (and has been) catastrophic to educational access for my students. That being said, the need for such work stations extends well beyond social distancing, to support a successful environment for independent work, which is traditionally not a format my students regularly find success in. By providing for independent work stations that can fit into my tight classroom, you are providing my students with opportunities to not only return to their school environments in a safe way, but also to return to their process of growing as successful learners.
