I am a middle school English language arts teacher in a Title I school in rural Georgia. I am hoping to build a classroom library for my students through this project. The selection of new books is limited at my school library and personal library.
I serve a diverse population of students and I am hoping to add new books featuring strong lead characters that look like most of my students. I am also looking for books with diverse topics, so there will be something that will appeal to students with different interests.
Many of my students struggle with reading and unfortunately read below their grade level, but I can see the interest is there when I bring in a brand new book. I believe that my students will be drawn to reading books with characters and stories that they can relate to.
I am hoping to build a collection of books that my students deserve and I'm hoping that through my diverse collection, my students will discover that one book that will introduce them to the joy of reading.
