My first graders love read-aloud time. They snuggle in with their snacks and water bottles and hang on my every word. They marvel at the pictures and make connections to the stories. They giggle as my voice imitates each character and they picture themselves going on each adventure.
My students also represent many cultures and backgrounds. Wouldn't it be amazing for them to be able to see themselves on the pages of the books? For them to be able to identify specifically with the characters they see on the pages that I read? This project of many culturally diverse books will provide just that.
