First thing each morning I display a social-emotional, daily relevant, journal prompt for my students to respond to in their notebooks. Some students can scribble a response to this prompt, while others can draw a picture or write in sentences.
By using the notebook as a means of expression, my bilingual students can then talk about their learning. This leads to a strong and healthy learning community in my classroom. Writing complete sentences is one of the hardest skills for my ESL students to learn. Having these notebooks will help me teach my students how to write and become proficient with the English language.
