The books being requested will be lovingly placed in reading bins. The magazines will be revitalizing as they arrive throughout the year and are placed alongside our other loved text. Students will be able to peruse the books often.
Supporting students in finding text that answer questions they are personally interested in, establishes early the literacy skill of reading for information. I will purposefully link the text to student-generated questions.
The text will also be used to teach lessons on informational text features: headings, subheadings, diagrams, pictures, and captions. Additionally, students will be taught how to utilize comprehension skills such as slowing down as needed, summarizing, questioning, and rereading.
