We are starting a functional project at the high school in the 2020-2021 school year. Students in this program have moderate to significant disabilities. Students will be learning functional skills to prepare for life after high school. One of the skills they will be learning is cooking, specifically in the microwave.
These students will learn how to make so many neat things like meatballs, chicken, cornbread, and holiday meals all in the microwave! Students will also be learning number skills, fractions, money, budgeting, and reading skills through the cooking process. Students will be reading recipes, making a shopping list by finding the best prices available, and then using measuring tools to make the recipes. They will learn about doubling recipes as well.
