As a second-year teacher entering into an uncertain school year, I hope to build up my academic materials and increase the welcoming nature of the physical environment.
My students made huge gains in their reading skills last year, and I want them to continue to grow whether they are in the school building or at home. By getting more leveled books into my classroom, I can give students choices and allow them to take books home. That's why I am also requesting school-home book bags. Students also made gains in math. I'm asking for some manipulatives that will benefit their learning, as most students in my class benefit from hands-on and visual instruction.
Finally, when students walk into my classroom, I want it to be a safe and welcoming environment. Things that I asked for, such as a carpet and a paper organizer will help tone down sensory stimuli and will provide a structure for students' independence in daily routines.
I hope this school year is a year of great growth for my students!
