When students make reading a daily habit, their vocabulary, writing abilities, and ACT/SAT scores improve. 20 minutes a day can help prepare them for college, help them develop a greater moral compass, and help them raise themselves out of poverty. But to catch students' attention in a world of TikTok and funny memes, teachers need high-interest, relevant books to place in their hands.
The books I am asking for portray strong characters of diverse backgrounds overcoming struggles and unfairness. As my students read these, they learn better how to face life from others' examples. I know my students can get hooked on reading if the selection in my class library interests them and is relevant to them.
