These tools will help my students connect with me and each other. The earphones with microphones will facilitate clearer discussion and collaboration during synchronous learning. Likewise, the styluses will lend precision to their drawings and mathematical computations.
Collaboration is a key aspect of learning. With the earphones with microphones, students will be able to hear each other more clearly as they work on common projects, discuss texts, and learn concepts together. During the most recent experience with distance learning, sound was often a problem as students tried listening to each other from environments where private space was at a premium. The earphones will help them focus and will cut the feedback noise for others.
Another challenge we encountered was in creating diagrams and mathematical equations on their devices. I discovered that using a stylus helped greatly. This spring, I personally purchased and mailed my class styluses, however it would help greatly if the incoming class of fifth graders were provided with them.
