Imagine never going to school before and being asked to listen to a stranger teaching you through a screen. This will be the experience of our incoming Kindergarten class of 2020 - 2021. My hope through this project is to provide all my students with tactile learning to enrich their learning and to balance the screen time of some of their earliest learning experiences.
As our district budget is decreasing by $28M, I am hoping to fundraise for resources that will help my students trace letters, mold clay for letter and name practice, use white boards and markers for directed drawing and guided spelling; magnetic letters for them to move over to their whiteboards, sight word cards that I'll sort for weekly practice so that parents are easily able to find their student materials; portfolios for them to capture their finest work and be able to present as authors, scientists, mathematicians when we finally reunite in the classroom; a musical instrument for pattern and rhythm practice; math tool box and shapes for them to practice counting and one-to-one correspondence; and for us to practice guided work time at a distance allowing for the opportunity that students conference; key-ring note cards to help any adult at home regardless of language help students to practice; organizational bins to promote self-management and to allow students to own their work as leaders.
In this early learning time, I hope to provide my students with all that they need to love learning and school before they ever step foot in a brick and mortar building.
Thank you for your consideration and unconditional support of my teaching endeavors.
