I have only been teaching for a few years but it did not take me long to figure out that my classroom library, which consisted of books left behind by other teachers, was outdated and not very diverse. I teach kids from all different aspects of life and I would love for all of them to feel excited about looking for a book in my room! I am hoping that by building a more diverse library my students will become more self-aware and proud of who they are, not only as a person but as a strong confident reader.
