Because our school year is so uncertain, I want to make sure my students have what they need whether we remain online or end up back in the classroom. Because of this, I am focusing on what will be most helpful for my students to have available during my virtual lessons. I also want to build relationships with my students before they even log on, and think that this welcome package + card will begin this. Each welcome package will include basic school supplies like pencils, a sharpener, a dry erase marker/eraser, a dry erase cover sheet, a journal, and a small stuffed animal.
Culturally relevant reading materials, where students see themselves represented, help boost student interest and connect to the content. These resources would be available in our virtual classroom and would be used in class to spark discussion about the application of math skills. They also help our students see themselves in the content and in some cases will allow students to read in their primary language.
