Our 5th graders need to see real-life stories of scientists, doctors, and innovators. We want to inspire our kids with a diverse collection of books highlighting the accomplishments and achievements of famous scientists. Our hope is that the challenges these famous people experienced will encourage our students and open their minds towards opportunities in STEM.
We want our students to have diverse literature because we believe this will help to create a culture of understanding each other as well as provide strong tools for teaching students about social justice. The books on this list tie in well with our 5th-grade science, technology, engineering, and mathematics curriculum.
