With transitioning from high school to elementary school, I am having to start over when it comes to my classroom. Instead of having a panic attack of walking into a bare classroom knowing I have to supply everything, I am looking at it as though I now have a blank canvas that I can create the most welcoming, nurturing, and fun loving place my students get to go to. Working with EC students at any level I have learned their environment plays a huge factor in how well they learn.
Students come to school with more weight on their shoulders than most people realize, but they will learn they can drop all that weight off at the door when they walk into my classroom. Students do not want to learn in a blank, bare walled classroom. They want to learn in a classroom that is inviting and comfortable. That is the classroom I want my students to have.
