These mentor texts will provide the basis for a reading program with targeted comprehension, vocabulary, and integrated language skills. I will use the high-interest picture books to have guided book conversations, increasing students' interest in literature.
Students will be actively engaged in the literature, while listening to and discussing the books. The curriculum focuses on deepening comprehension for students, which is a key in early literacy. Activities for each text have been designed to assure students are actively thinking, making connections, and responding to the text in a
meaningful way.
