On March 13, 2020, our school campus was closed due to COVID-19. My students and I exited our classroom with the materials we hoped would be useful for distance education. With me, I took an ancient, school district-provided laptop with which I would struggle to effectively conduct remote lessons to my homeroom students in math, science, language, and art.
Until the last day of school, I willed that old laptop to work - It was a painful and time-consuming process!
Despite its limitations, I managed to create lessons incorporating Google Classroom, Google Docs and Google Slides, IXL, Lexia, Epic, FlipGrid and YouTube. I also recorded and posted videos to scaffold academic learning and promote emotional wellness. In addition, I hosted weekly small and large group Google Meets to reach all of my amazing and deserving students.
With updated and reliable technology, such as a MacBook Air, my distance education lessons will be successfully delivered when we return to school August 26, 2020.
