I want to teach the middle school students the usefulness of being math savvy as it deals with personal finance. The middle school math curriculum revolves around life skill math; fractions, decimals, percents.
The goal of this project based unit on financial literacy/mathematics is to have my students experience the financial responsibilities and challenges of an adult.
In the unit, the kids will research and pick a job, find the salary in particular location. They will then have to find an apartment, car/means of transportation to job, create a budget, prepare for 'surprise' expenses and make their money last.
