These items will be used to create a safe place for my students to either take a calm down break and/or to learn about different social-emotional skills. My overall goal is for my students to feel completely relaxed, totally composed, and sure of themselves so that they can learn to the best of their abilities!
With flexible seating, students and teachers have more open communication because choices have to be made. This, in turn, builds problem-solving skills, emotional skills (conflict resolution), and higher-order thinking skills. Students can sit together or move their seats to a more calm area. The games and books will help with reteaching and encouraging social skills in the school setting as well as for the rest of their lives. Games are such a fun way to engage students in learning without them even realizing that they are working on improving their skills. The books will be great for using literature as a guide to gain understanding and help with problem-solving.
