First graders love when they get to experience hands-on learning. Using Fidget Poppers gives the students a fun way to segment the sounds of a word. First, the students press a popper for each sound they hear in a word. This allows the students to isolate each sound. Then they can determine which letter or letters correspond to each circle they popped. This tactile approach, not only is fun, but also reinforces strong neurological pathways in the brain. By encoding what they hear, they are converting speech to print which makes them better readers and spellers.
