Even young children can have bad days and big feelings! The materials I have requested will help me create a safe space where all students can go when they need a brain break or just a space where they can safely express their feelings.
Our young students are adventurous and creative explorers who come to school with unique ideas, talents, gifts--and feelings! Young children do not always know appropriate ways to express their feelings. Young children do not always have the words to express their feelings or even know what they are feeling or why. An amygdala reset room is the perfect space for these students to learn how to regulate their own feelings.
The materials provided for our Amygdala Reset Room will allow students a safe space to "reset" their amygdalas- which will allow them to calmly re-enter the classroom so they can get back to learning!
Research has shown that students of all ages can benefit from an Amygdala Reset. A calming environment with flexible and comfortable seating, tactile items such as sensory rings, balls, and fidgets, and self-regulation books and activities, will help students when they are feeling agitated, anxious, angry, scared, sad--or any upset feeling! When students feel calm and in control they can return to the classroom ready to learn.
Our goal is to teach students how to recognize and manage their feelings so they can achieve success!
