The English Language Learners in this project will be identified at the "beginning" level of English language proficiency. Students at this level of English proficiency often need direct instruction to learn parts of speech, grammar, and basic writing skills.
By teaching students through an Elmo document camera connected to a smart-board, students will learn new technology and computer skills. Students will apply their English language knowledge by crafting stories of their experiences in coming to Hawaii. Students will use Google Slides to apply the technical skills learned through the smartboard.
Taking this project one step further, students will share their stories with ELs or general education students at our nearby elementary school. Students need to be heard and their experiences validated. This project provides an authentic experience in which students meet, speak, and read their stories with other students.
