Music class involves many carpet activities, and also requires the flexibility to move around the room. A carpet allows for easy transitions for different activities. It removes the need to be constantly rearrange chairs (which takes up valuable music time). Another benefit is that students will have assigned spots so that the transition into and out of music class runs smoothly.
More specifically, a carpet with designated color squares gives a sense of security and familiarity in the music room. It also helps teach spatial awareness in a classroom where movement is part of the curriculum.
