No more than now is access to high quality art instruction important to help children process some of the emotions that they have encountered in these trying times. I am fortunate to have enough supplies for my students. Pre-Covid- I would "save-up" so to speak high quality supplies for my students to use. I have enough saved to distribute to my students if we are remote, but not the container for them to travel in. I would like to make personal art supply kits for my students. Even when we are back in the classroom, it is likely that group use materials will be a thing of the past (for this upcoming year). I would use plastic containers to make sure each student has a uncontaminated supply of materials for use.
During our quick shutdown last year, many of my students had minimal art supplies at home. 50% did not even have a glue stick. Many turned in pen drawing on lined paper. While others were able to paint using acrylic. If I could give out the supplies, I could at least even the level of inequities that students face at home in at least one small but important area.
