In order for students to be the best mathematicians they can be, they need to be able to visualize the math we are learning. Manipulatives help us do that! It helps my multilingual learners, my students on IEPs, my visual learners, and just all students in general. To ease students' math anxiety I aim to make math hands-on, creative and fun and having all of these math manipulatives for my students will help with this goal!
We still don't know whether we will be learning in the classroom, at home, or both, but what I do know is that regardless, students will need their own set of math manipulatives like base ten blocks, fraction bars and circles, and rulers. If we are in the classroom, then students will need their own personal set of every math manipulative we use to ensure that there is no cross-contamination between students. If and when we are learning online, I want to be able to have students take their own personal set of manipulatives home with them so they can still use them to aid in their learning.
As a first year teacher this is not what I thought my first year teaching would be like. But I am still just as committed to my students, their well-being, and their learning. By donating to this project you will be making 20 4th graders and 1 teacher extremely happy that all students will be able to have the materials they need to succeed inside and outside of the classroom. Thank you!
