The first grade students in my classroom will use the tablets during reading centers, math centers, free choice time, and to create a digital portfolio of their learning. My students will be able to use the tablets to listen to unlimited books using digital libraries, including Raz-Kids. They will be able to increase their math and reading skills by using apps such as ABCYA, BrainPop, Epic!, digitial manipulatives, and much more.
Technology in the classroom is engaging and makes learning exciting, it allows for differentiation to meet the needs of all students, and it helps them improve their technology and 21st century skills. For example, students will be able to use the tablets to do research to assist with their writing, for example learning about penguins using PebbleGo and then writing an informational writing piece.
Our 1st grade students can also create a digital portfolio of their work using the tablets. My students use a digital learning platform called Seesaw where they can complete interactive assignments, access videos and interactive games, take pictures of their work, use the microphone to read their story, or take a video to document their learning. Parents then have access to this program so they can see what their child is learning at school. These tablets will not only help the children in the classroom, but will provide a strong home-school connection.
