The project is aimed to help me as a first year teacher give my students a diverse classroom library. I will be teaching in a title 1 district in which I know I will have many minority students who should feel represented in and out of the classroom. I hope to make every student feel welcomed and embraced in my classroom. I know a classroom library cannot solve that alone, yet I hope it is a start in the right direction.
Once I listened to a TED talk stating that often kids do have windows and mirrors on their bookshelves. What I mean to say is that children need to see themselves in the books they are reading and also see others as well. It helps them learn more about themselves and others. Students can help others feel more welcomed and allow them to explore themselves. The books I have chose are from a wide range of backgrounds, in which I hope my students can relate to and learn from.
