As I reflect on my four years of teaching, I have realized the importance of student ownership. In particular, I've learned that students need to be able to record, track, and collect their own progress throughout the year. By providing students with the supplies to organize individual data binders, students will gain clarity.
Tracking student growth is an important aspect of teaching, and creating student data binders allows students to set and reach their goals. Charting growth can give students the visual they need to see how they are progressing. Additionally, student data binders will be a meaningful tool during family student conferences by providing important pieces of student work. Compiling student work will help myself, students, and family members celebrate successes and plan for areas of struggle. Lastly, these data binders will be very helpful when working with our special education team in tracking and planning IEP goals.
