With the effects of this pandemic, school funding has been cut and many families currently don’t have a steady source of income to prioritize school supplies. Since the upcoming year will likely require a hybrid model of instruction, students will need basic school supplies for home and school in order to have a successful academic year. My wish is to alleviate the burden of families having to buy school supplies for paper/pencil instruction. During the spring months of Distance Learning I purchased printing supplies, postage and mailing supplies, software, new technology and classroom consumables. Despite my efforts, students didn’t have proper Internet access, lacked basic supplies needed to complete packets of work, and were simply disengaged.
Your donations will allow me to purchase a digital version of a highly recommended Common Core aligned math curriculum, sponsored by the renowned Ed Reports for meeting the rigorous 21st Century education requirements. It’s imperative that I plan for a school year with significant gaps in learning and a need for additional support. Selecting and effectively utilizing digital tools and curriculum will be crucial to ensure learning time, whether at home, in school or a hybrid, is optimized, without the need for printing and consumable materials. Here’s to a future of math engagement and achievement gap closing for one inner-city classroom in Essex County, Massachusetts.
