I teach Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 to 8th grade students in a low socioeconomic area. My students are at a disadvantage because they lack needed supplies. They have laptops in the classroom, but need headphones in order to take full advantage of the technologies afforded in the classroom. A class set of calculators would greatly benefit my students with the more complicated logarithms performed in the Algebra 1 classes. The calculators ordered are the same ones used to take the FSA and End-of-Course exams, so students will benefit from using these tools in class on a daily basis. Finally, a large number of students need composition books and pencils in order to complete work at home and at schools.
My math students should have the same opportunity for success as other students in wealthier school districts.
