My kiddos are at different levels of reading. This is why I have chosen a graphic novel that is sure to inspire my slower readers. The images and reduced text will seem less daunting and the story is sure to capture their imagination as they journey into a futuristic world where children solve problems.
I have also chosen Holes as a great novel to highlight adversity and show my students that friendship can show up in the most unexpected places. I know that this book is a popular choice among 5th grade teachers.
My third choice is Hatchet, which is a story set in the wilds of Canada. This book is sure to inspire kids with its fast-paced plot. I can already visualize the many hands-on activities associated with this reading.
