As we prepare for the 2020-2021 school year we are preparing students, parents and teachers for an unknown experience.
I would like to help all fourth grade students, parents and teachers feel confident, excited and prepared to start this adventure. As teachers we have a chance to set the stage for everyone to become more involved in their child's education, and with nothing to compare it to we can make this uncertain time an incredible and memorable experience for all.
Students will be able to set up an independent learning space at home, with materials to participate in lessons as if they were in the classroom. When planning for the first semester, we thought about items that would emulate the classroom experience.
I want this new process of time management and technology based learning to be smooth, students will be given the picture frame to set up by their designated learning space that will hold their daily schedule and passwords. Dry erase boards are used across all subject areas daily. Students solve math problems, write game answers, prove their thinking as well as many other ways. Using the whiteboards, this will be an easy visual for students to use while learning virtually.
Other items that will be included are materials to create maps, math games, reading activities, and books to help develop a close knit classroom community. These kits will also have all students starting the year on the same playing field. As teachers we just want our students to feel welcome, valued and confident when starting this adventure of virtual learning!
