Since our learning adventure will take place at home this year, my students will need a break from all that screen-time. Although we will see each other through a screen, we can still interact with each other. I plan to make kits so students will be able to play math games using dice and white boards and participate actively in our online class-time. These supplies will enhance their distance learning by providing opportunities that are familiar to them and that resemble school activities. The additional supplies will help to get the most tech-efficient setup to administer our online sessions and lessons.
Since we will be spending so much time on-line, I would like to use these supplies to provide a break from technology and give the kiddos an opportunity to have educational experiences that extend beyond the screen. I will be able to guide the students when we are in our virtual class and they can interact and use the dice, counters, whiteboards to simulate center activities that we have in our actual classroom lessons. These manipulatives will provide the concrete mathematical practice that is lacking by only relying on technology.
