Flexible seating can be implemented once we are back to in person instruction. Flexible seating allows students to fidget and move around while I am teaching without distracting others. It also teaches them responsibility, the power of choice, and how to share, which are skills that are important to develop in kindergarten. Flexible seating, such as wobble stools, can also help with the development of motor skills. All items are easy to clean and disinfect daily to keep kids safe from germs, which is an added plus.
Kindergarten is the first year kids are in school, and after only experiencing distance learning, coming to school and seeing how fun being in school can be will allow for an easier transition. Going to school and leaving your family for the first time is scary and hard for a 5 year old. It will be an especially hard transition because they have already experienced school while being with their families.
Providing a welcoming environment where children feel safe to learn, play, and be themselves is so important. Flexible seating helps provide a homey feel.
