My students come from an impoverished area, often eating junk food such as chips and soda for breakfast, skipping lunch, and fast food for dinner. Most do not exercise regularly, as indicated by their Fitnessgram scores, and low overall academic test scores. If students were more active, research has proven that their test scores also improve, the retention of the subject matter improve if they are engaging their bodies as well as their minds, and helps them to relax during class. Many lack motivation, they are in a large urban school on a split campus with about 2300 students, and most are English language learners. If there were motivating tools in the class, learning might also improve.
