While it is uncertain what the upcoming school year will look like, one thing is certain - my students are resilient thinkers, makers, creators and innovators. They have big imaginations and they love to learn and explore. My project is to create individual Maker Kits for each of my 2nd graders. Each Maker Kit is full of the materials and tools needed for my students to be creative, think critically, solve challenges, and learn through imagination and play! These will resemble a typical Maker Space in the classroom, which incorporates all aspects of STEAM - science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, but will allow for each student to safely use their own supplies, especially during the changes from in person learning in school to distance learning at home. Students will use the art supplies (pipe cleaners, pompoms, felt, etc) and learning tools (Plus Plus, Brain Flakes, Building Blocks, etc) to either make using their imagination, or to tinker and create to achieve the goal of a given task all while exploring their growth mindset. The Maker Kits benefit all students by allowing students to explore real world concepts, learn and grow from mistakes, innovate and create, no matter their learning style. Whether we are learning in the classroom or from our homes, the maker kits can travel with the students to be used for in-person or distance learning.
The Maker Kits allow my students to have the materials they need to make, create and innovate.
