As inspired by the picture book, Have You Filled A Bucket Today?: A Guide To Daily Happiness For Kids, we will begin our Kindergarten year by learning what it means to "fill your bucket". In welcoming my students, I will start filling their buckets with items that will inspire and excite them about school. This gesture will help to build a strong foundation for our classroom community. Bucket items will include: a copy of the Filled A Bucket book, a stuffed stingray - the school mascot, and an "All About Me" poster.
The children will treasure having their own copy of the book. And, whenever they reread this book, they will be reminded of the powerful lessons about giving, sharing, and caring.
The book is a heartwarming story that encourages kindness and respect. It uses the concept of an invisible bucket to show kids how easy and rewarding it is to express love and appreciation by "filling buckets”. It is the kindergarten "warm fuzzy" - you feel good when you say or do something nice for someone else. The book puts readers on the path toward responding respectfully to others people’s feelings.
The cuddly stuffed stingray will provide comfort and remind each child that he/she belongs with our kindergarten class and school. They are now a "Super Stingray" swimming along with their friends as they embark upon new adventures. Their stingray friend will also join them as a buddy for instruction during Distance Learning.
The "All About Me" poster will allow each child to introduce themselves to their friends, and to share how special they are and what unique talents they possess. Kindergartners love learning about their new friends!
