Students will use the reading materials to foster and enhance their reading development while exposing them to the fact that differences are amazing-no matter the difference.
I want to provide an interesting, rich variety of reading material for my students to see themselves and still have the structure of reading, which is being able to identify characters and their moods, emotions and feelings and describe how they contribute to the story.
This project being funded will help my students be able to read on their independent reading level and make connections/utilize what we are learning in class. It would afford them the additional time for the enjoyment of reading that they may not always have during the school day. It would allow me to further assess their understanding and mastery of the standards being taught while using technology and written/physical samples (reports-written and oral, Padlet, Flipgrid, etc .) to enhance their orator/public speaking skills.
Should the need arise for my students to return to a virtual setting, supplying them with a text that piques their interest could be a major enhancement in their thirst for reading.
Seeing themselves in text and learning about others, cultures, values, morals and good qualities, is just the icing on the cake!
