Students will read Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson and engage in meaningful discussions from a historical perspective of a child coming of age during a time of change in the United States. As they engage in a class novel study, they will have the opportunity to hone their reading and writing skills while they evaluate the text independently and as a group.
My students will use history to gain perspective as we travel back in time and take a peek into the life of a child that would've been their peer. History can provide valuable lessons and lay the groundwork for solutions for all generations.
