I want to use physical books to enhance online learning. My goal is for every student to be able to hold a copy of a book. If each student has their own physical copy of a novel, they will be more likely to be engaged in online learning.
I still want my English class to feel more like a book club, despite the challenges of online learning. The physical copy of a book to take to the park or beach serves as a break from the online learning, which they may feel overwhelmed with at this time. It serves not only a learning tool, but a needed distraction.
Physical books still have the potential to bring families together in a way that internet texts do not. Family members may share copies of the book and discuss it, which could really encourage parent involvement. An ideal learning environment would be a student reading a book, and then talking about it over dinner with their family.
