When I remember PreK, I think of playing. I think of writing my name, painting pictures, and singing songs. But I wasn't doing these things alone. I was singing with my teacher and painting pictures with my best friend. As a PreK teacher, I try recreate those same experiences and more for my students.
You cannot paint with your best friend using a learning packet. Our county cannot provide devices for every PreK student which makes live class sessions optional. While some of my babies have devices, some of them do not. When schools first closed in the spring, we were mostly posting recorded lessons and activity sheets on ClassDojo. But we missed our babies and they missed us. When we started doing live class sessions, they were so excited to see their friends and their teachers. They felt like they were in school again; we sang sons, danced, wrote letters on digital whiteboards, and practiced counting together. We were connected again.
Our new babies do not know us yet, but we want them to. Everyone does not have a device for live sessions. We are a Title One school, all of our students receive free lunch and free breakfast. I do not want any of my students to miss out because their family may not be able to afford a device. Please help us create an amazing (and virtual) PreK experience for our kids.
