My students learn through a very wide variety of modalities. I utilize social stories, games, activities, worksheets, custom-made token boards, and many other tools in order to gain important skills that the students will use to significantly increase the quality of their day to day living. These skills range from responding to questions appropriately, requesting wants and needs, engaging fellow students in turn-taking activities, and identifying core elements of social stories.
While each student has their own unique, special needs, there are several key items/tools that I use in order to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for my students in the classroom. Picture systems are one of those tools that I use to help students to develop emotional skills, as well as increase social participation in their classrooms, home, and communities. As such, printing customized materials with the use of a new color printer and ink would be of huge benefit to my students not just this year, but in years to come.
Given that I work in Title One schools, oftentimes the students I see don't have access to the games, activities, and other tools we use during speech therapy sessions. These items bring tremendous joy to my students and are always a bright spot in their day.
