Two main issues: The next big tech item is the Microsoft Surface. Our kids need to have used it. Also, the stylus feature helps me the teacher create pre-recorded lessons where I can grade their essays in real time as if I was grading their pen and paper work. I am Google Level 2 certified. I'm capable but need the tools.
Grading with a stylus and teaching them to design presentations with a Surface would help them keep up with more affluent peers. A lack of confidence when they transition to college will only reinforce all the naysayers they had to ignore along the way.
