My students have a 45 minute block of arrival time. While some students use this time to eat breakfast, other students need something meaningful to do during this time. In the past, when the arrival block was shorter, my students would color or draw. However, many students became bored with coloring. My answer to this was Morning Tubs!
Morning Tubs provide multiple activities that strengthen and develop many skills we use daily in class! I offer many STEM activities for the students that allow them to be creative and to problem solve on their own. These activities often spark many conversations between group members and is often a "starter" for student writing. I also offer activities to help strengthen little hands and hand/eye concentration. These experiences are crucial to help master basic handwriting.
My students are so excited to arrive at school and get to pick their "tubs". Due to health concerns this year I will need to separate the manipulatives into small tubs or bags to prevent cross contamination between students. Only one student will touch that activity that day and it will be sanitized afterwards. The use of individual tubs and bags also keep our items organized and in better condition.
