The second graders in my class are excited and eager to learn on a daily basis. We like to move around and find new, creative ways to enhance our learning experiences!
Our school is one of the oldest in our district on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
Up until the mid-'90s, children of the Oahu Sugar Company workers comprised the majority of the school population. The closing of the sugar plantation has brought many changes to our school community. Many of our families live in multi-family or multi-generational homes. Over 50% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches. 30% of our families speak a language other than English at home.
