I have relocated to a new district/school and grade level. Students in my 5th grade classroom are funny, witty, charming, & inquisitive. Many of them love to show off to their peers, while others are more quiet and artistic. All of them are extremely well versed in technology, pop culture and anything internet. However, less than a handful can tie their shoes or a knot on a bracelet.
These children were at a critical age when covid hit, the end of kinder and their 1st grade year, and they lost a lot of ground in every subject. About that time Hurricane Harvey hit their community, a fact that was brought up in class while we learned about 9/11 during U.S. History. They felt connected to some of those traumatic events shared, especially those stories about people helping people.
I want to give my students any advantages I can through classroom experiences and relationships.
I love to watch them grow & learn!
