To cater to my students unique multiple intelligences and to help them readjust after the impact of the coronavirus on learning this past year, creating a Makerspace will bring excitement and "fun" into learning. A Makerspace (a designated "space" area) will provide my students the opportunities to explore, discover, collaborate, problem-solve, and innovate. Through hands-on experiences with sensory manipulatives, flexible seating, STEM bins, Constructing Kits, base-ten blocks, and dry erase boards, my students will embrace their own learning, creativity, and strengths within cross-curricular activities. They will develop self-management, independence skills, and social skills as they create and engage in open-ended exploration and play. A Makerspace will align to my school’s Social Emotional Learning (especially after the impact on Coronavirus on learning), General Learner Outcomes, Common Core, STEM scopes, and our students’ with special needs Individualized Education Programs (learning targets, goals, and objectives).
