Each one of my learners is just starting out on their reading and math journey. This year is the foundation of that journey and requires a good, solid base. The materials I have selected are such a great foundation to have in my classroom. 鈥ㄢ
My students will use these materials every day in centers to help them achieve mastery of the concept being taught. These materials will help me to quickly informally assess how my students are progressing and mastering concepts so that I can better cater to their academic needs.
As a first-year teacher, I want to be able to give my students the same great resources that a more experienced teacher can give them. These materials are all practical and useful for day-to-day school. All of my materials promote student聽engagement.聽Students will be able to use these materials hands-on to identify letters and build words. I envision students using these materials for small-group, teacher-led activities as well as independently. When teaching short vowels vs. long vowels, having students physically turn the word 鈥渃ap鈥 to 鈥渃ape鈥 by adding their 鈥渆鈥 block to the end of the word will help my kinesthetic learners. Each student will have boards to keep their magnetic letters on and they will be able to manipulate the letters to better understand the sounds they make.聽 When students use the math manipulatives at centers, they will be able to build and see what numbers actually MEAN by how they are represented in manipulatives. 鈥
My students will benefit from these resources in their phonics and number skills.聽These are foundational skills that set the base for all learning. I would rather my students be DOING than seeing, and these materials allow for that.
