All my students are curious learners who appreciate and learn from the stories of others! It is so important that we bring in many different voices and experiences into the classroom through representation in children's literature. Schools overall are still transitioning to creating space for Black, Indigenous and People of Color on our bookshelves. This is in part because books are expensive to replace and building a library takes time.
Helping me fund this project will not only help my classroom, but others at my school curate a book collection that represents our community and school as well as being windows into other communities students may not encounter without the power of storytelling. Alongside books that represent more than a singular experience, all students should have access to materials with which to build and explore. Learning is not one size fits all, and it is so important to me that I am able to provide enriching experiences by offering my students quality engineering materials. As a new teacher, I don't have the collection of toys and materials from years of teaching, and with the funding of this project, I can offer my incoming students more opportunities to build, explore and discover.
