STEM education opens the door for new career opportunities that are growing each year. With these kits, my students will simulate mechanical engineering when building catapults and paddle boats, civil engineering when building bridges, and aeronautical engineering when designing parachutes and rockets. My students love the rigorous thinking and reflections required in STEM challenges, but are not able to gain the equitable benefit of actually putting their hands on materials in the virtual setting as they would in face-to-face classes.
Providing hands-on STEM At-Home Student Kits allows all students to participate without stigma because everyone has access to the same materials. Rather than some students having to watch me virtually manipulate materials, they all will conduct experiments, use the engineering design process and exercise their own student agency as they put their own plans into action.
