The classroom library is truly the heart and soul of our room. I read a book aloud to the class every day - while we use these books for academic purposes, most often we read together to open up a discussion on how we can improve our classroom community, understand ourselves and our emotions, and become more empathetic humans. Additionally, almost 90% of my students identify as a minority race. I want to add more books to our library with characters that they can identify with - that look like them, go through similar struggles and to provide opportunities for conversations on what we can all do to better understand each other and make the world a brighter place.
